Nokia 5530 XpressMusic iSync Plugin
Last night I decided to hook up the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic which I received from Nokia. Unfortunately for me this phone is not supported on Apple Mac – at all!
When I say at all I mean at all. For example, Nokia Software Updater isn’t compatible, Nokia PC Suite isn’t compatible, there is only limited Mac compatibility (i.e. GPRS & Bluetooth), Nokia Music isn’t supported so you can’t download songs to your Mac and finally, there is no iSync plugin for the 5530 XpressMusic either.
While I respect that Nokia are still in development with their Mac version of the Nokia Music app I am perplexed that there is no plugin for iSync. With no other access to Nokia applications, using iSync is the only way you can get contacts and calendar items to the phone and without the plugin the phone is pretty much useless.
I didn’t like this ofcourse so I’ve created a 5530 XpressMusic iSync plugin that any Mac user with this phone can happily download. Here’s what you need to do:
- Download the 5530 XpressMusic iSync plugin here
- Double-click the downloaded ZIP file and it will expand and leave you with a file called Nokia_5530_XpressMusic_isync_plugin_2v0.phoneplugin
- Now you need to move this file to the following location on your Mac: /Library/PhonePlugins/. You may need to create the PhonePlugins folder because mine didn’t exist when I did this.
- When you’re done, open up iSync and click on Add Device – it should pick up your 5530 and you can then double-click it to add it to iSync.
When this is all done, you should see the following screenshot and voila – you can now sync contacts and calendars with the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic on your Mac.

Sry, but it does not work on my Mac.
I downloaded your plugin. After download and unarchive it is not a file, it is folder — is that right???
After i put it to “/MyMac/Library/PhonePlugins”.
Then i call ISync, but ISync cant find my phone.
What am I doing wrong?
A lot of thanks!
Andy.

Aeter a google search (transfer Vcard from Mac to Nokia 5530) I was so happy finding your blog. I thougt : I am saved! Unfortunately I encountered the same as Alex : an folder with the content he listed appears after extraction instead of a file .
Nevertheless I tried with adding this folder in the phoneplugin created in the library by the command you indicated.
Still nothing : isync delivers a message saying that the application do not work with this device.
I am discouraged!
Thank you in advance if you find a solution for the unlucky persons that cannot use what seems to be a so genious finding and so kindly communicated
To note : I have a Mac OS 10.5.7

I first had the same problems: Folder /Library/PhonePlugins wasn’t there and to extract the file with the standard program didn’t do.
Then I created the folder myself and extracted the download-file on windows (parallels) with win-rar, copied the folder “Nokia_5530_XpressMusic_isync_plugin_2v0.phoneplugin” from win-rar to /Library/PhonePlugins, started iSync and now it works!

PS: For the ones with problems: with i-call off, first delete the phone directory in the Library… Than make the PhonePlugins/Nokia_5530_XpressMusic_isync_plugin_2v0.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources/
with in Contents:
Info.plist
and the Resources folder
with in Resources folder
Nokia5530XpressMusic.tiff
SyncEngine.plist
PhoneConduit.plist
MetaClasses.plist
and maybe startup the mac again…
Good luck!

Hello,
Justin (or anyone here), have you figured out how to transfer multimedia (esp. music) files from Mac to 5530? I just purchased the phone (it’s in transit so I don’t have it with me yet) and I’m so upset it’s not compatible with Nokia Multimedia Transfer…
Some ideas…?
Or perhaps someone tried what Tom says in this thread? (post #3):

does it work?
I would appreciate your help guys so much.

Thank you very much!!!! It works great!!! I use Leopard Snow 10.6.2. I had some problems with the plugin then I followed Vincent’s instructions and now it works like a charm! (ps. When I downloaded your plugin with Firefox, after unzipping the file I got an empty folder: Nokia_5530_XpressMusic_isync_plugin_2v0.phoneplugin. When downloaded using Safari I got the folder Contents, so I had to create the folder Nokia_5530_XpressMusic_isync_plugin_2v0.phoneplugin within PhonePlugins and dropped the folder Contents there)

All great. Just one thing: when you say
“Double-click the downloaded ZIP file and it will expand and leave you with a file called
Nokia_5530_XpressMusic_isync_plugin_2v0.phoneplugin”
you want to say “a directory called
Nokia_5530_XpressMusic_isync_plugin_2v0.phoneplugin” and not a file. This is the problem for many users that can’t use this plugin.
Bye bye

Any guidance you have would be very much appreciated! My phone is dying slowly and I need to retrieve all the pics and videos before it dies forver!
