State of the Afrosphere - my presentation at 27dinner Cape Town

State of the Afrosphere - my presentation at 27dinner Cape Town

Hey, it looks like you're new here to my blog! You may want to consider subscribing to my RSS feed and you'll automatically get notified when I post a new blog entry. If web feeds aren't your thing then why not join my email list by clicking here. Thanks for stopping by.

Here is my short presentation I gave last night at my first Cape Town 27dinner. I tried to have a look at the state of the African Blogosphere as reported by Afrigator.

Presentation courtesy of Nic and Zoopy

Many thanks firstly to Nic who was clever enough to film my presentation at the 27dinner and secondly to Jason at Zoopy who went out of his way to get this video up on their server. I was having loads of difficulty uploading the video but Jason quickly jumped in to help out. The irony in all of this is that YouTube, the largest video sharing site on the web, rejected this very video on the grounds that it was too long - go figure!

27dinner and Team Afrigator

Lots has been written about the eventful 27dinner last night but I just wanted to say that it was an awesome experience all round. I did a presentation in which I announced the launch of the private beta version of Afrigator and more details, along with the presentation, can be found on the official blog.

Nic also recorded the entire presentation and I’m trying desperately to get it uploaded so hopefully more details will follow soon.

The highlight for me was having all four Afrigators in the same room at the same time. It took eight months but finally Team Afrigator was a unit - if only for a few short hours.

27dinner and Afrigator

Tomorrow night I’m doing a presentation at the 27dinner at Melrose Arch in Johannesburg. We’ll be making an announcement for Afrigator which I think is pretty cool so if you weren’t planning on coming to the dinner before pop on over to hear what it’s all about.

The cool thing for me is that this is going to be the first time that all four Afrigator guys are going to be in the same room and it’s taken nearly eight months to get this right. Very exciting.

Hoping to see you all there!

27-5 yet another success

One of the first things Nic Haralambous had to say to me on arrival at the 27dinner was - why are you not at home working? My response was quite simply that once every two months I take a night off to socialise and interact with like-minded Geeks and last night was no different.

It’s only my second 27dinner but I have to admit that I really look forward to these Geek gatherings as it gives me an opportunity to chat with all these virtual users in a real-world kind of way. I had some awesome chats with Paul de Sousa, Vinny Lingham (who despite having such a HUGE reputation is actually such a down-to-earth guy), Vincent Maher, Colin Daniels, Susan Deysel (who couldn’t remember me for love or money) and the infamous Erik Hersman who is more commonly know as the White African.

Colin gave us an interesting debriefing on Bullardgate while Erik really drilled home mobile phone usage as a medium to deliver content to users and finally Vinny made his big announcement.

Last night also gave us an opportunity to hand out the Afrigator Limited Edition T-Shirts so I really hope everyone who got one is happy with them!

Once again thanks to Dave and Mike from Cerebra for organising, paying and hosting the event and a special thanks to Mike for eventually remembering to give me a lift home!

I lost my virginity

Well it’s official - I’m no longer a virgin and my first introduction into the real-world geek community was fab. At first glance the 27dinner can be a little overwhelming however when you actually start introducing yourself to people it’s amazing to see how many people you actually know - even if just virtually.

Lots has been written about this unique 27dinner thing and I unfortunately don’t have anything unique to add to the discussion apart from the fact that I enjoyed myself immensely. I never really thought meeting this virtual lot could actually be such fun!
